Mendham Recycling Day

May 6, 2011
By Turpin Real Estate

May 14 is Mendham’s Paper Shredding/Electronics Recycling Day

Since spring cleaning is on the mind of many Mendham residents, next weekend’s Community Shred and Electronics Recycling Day comes at a perfect time.  Saturday, May 14, all Mendham Borough and Mendham Township residents are invited to bring their personal paperwork or electronics to this event for proper disposal.  Both events will take place at the Public Works Facility located at 37 Ironia Road from 9am to 1pm.

An on-site paper shredder will safely discard old files, keeping sensitive papers free from identity theft.  Suggested items include bank statements, old tax forms, receipts, medical forms, insurance information and other personal data.  Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed, making it even easier to dispose of outdated papers.  Additionally, all shredded paper will be recycled.

The Electronics Recycling event will be accepting “almost everything with a plug.”  These include desktop and laptop computers (hard drives will be erased by: Advanced Recovery), small electronics, copiers, hardware, printers, monitors, small household appliances, tape recorders, radios, typewriters, fax machines and televisions.  The event will not include larger items such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves or air conditioners.

Both events are sponsored by the Mendham Borough and Mendham Township Environmental Commissions.  With an eye toward preserving the environment, Mendham is dedicated to keeping the community eco-friendly.  If living in this kind of town appeals to you, contact our Mendham office at 8 East Main Street to learn more about Mendham real estate.

50 Notable Sales: 54 Spring Hill Road, Mendham, NJ

November 8, 2010
By Turpin Real Estate

Front View of 43 Spring HillA sentimental favorite for sure, this lovely country home’s first owner was company founder Virginia Turpin.  She and her husband built their home in 1955, five years before Virginia established Turpin Real Estate.  It was sold by Turpin in 2000, and has recently been sold again, by Turpin’s  Bernardsville and Far Hills offices.

Altered, updated and renovated through the years, this home still retains much of its original charm and character.  Located on a quiet cul de sac street in an excellent Mendham location just south of the historic village of Mendham, the private, park-like neighborhood consists of just 12 lots with a common park area as its centerpiece.  The 70-acre community was carved out of the former H. Rufus Eppler farm in 1950 for residential use, and each home enjoys a special setting. William and Virginia Turpin constructed their home across the lane from the common. Enhancing the magical three-acre setting are beautiful gardens, outdoor terraces, stone walls and inspirational views.

Inside, a spacious nine room floor plan offers four bedrooms, two full baths and a powder room.  Some of the changes to the original layout include the addition of bay windows for more natural light, turning the former garage into a dramatic high ceiling family room anchored by a massive stone wall fireplace, a newly-created two-car garage connected to the home by a covered passageway, a new master bath and new master bedroom closets.  A re-designed kitchen was completely transformed using high-end fixtures and finishes.  In the formal dining room, a handpainted mural depicting Hunt Country scenes is a whimsical touch.

Virginia Turpin would undoubtedly be proud to note that an upstairs bath was special enough to retain its original design.  Buyers who are looking at Mendham homes for sale will not be disappointed in this enchantingly bright and airy home.

The acreage surrounding this new Mendham home for sale was once part of the original Bernardsville Mountain Colony, which was established by wealthy New Yorkers in the years following the Civil War.  It was developed nearly 100 years ago by the Stevens family, who founded Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.  The family was also closely involved in the advancement of steam-powered boats and trains at the turn of the last century. Aerial View of 10 Exmoor Dr

Set on over 12 bucolic acres, the opulent 8,000 square foot estate home contains five bedrooms, five full baths, a powder room and a three-car garage.  Delightful gathering spaces within the home are enhanced by wood flooring, four fireplaces and soaring ceiling heights.  The home’s sophisticated backdrop is perfect for either casual or formal gatherings.  Whether preparing meals in the center island gourmet kitchen, relaxing in the opulent master suite with private resort-style bath, or hosting a movie night in the walk-out lower level, this custom-designed residence has vast appeal.  A multitude of windows takes in majestic views of open green lawns and ancient forests.

The acreage surrounding this regal estate has a storied past.  Caroline Bayard Stevens Alexander Wittpenn was the first property owner.  The estate was later inherited by Caroline’s grandson, Archibald Alexander III, who had a distinguished career as treasurer of the state of New Jersey and Undersecretary of the Army for President Harry Truman.

More recently, Irene’s Spring Tree Farm was owned by the Irene family, founders of Armada Health Care.  The natural beauty of its windswept acres has made it a memorable backdrop for everything from high profile fundraising events to a Ralph Lauren commercial.

As this landmark property is transformed into an upscale residential enclave of estate-caliber homes, special care is being taken with site development.  Properties will measure ten acres or more to ensure privacy and land preservation.  In order for estates in the new community to harmonize with one another, an overriding architectural vision includes classic forms such as Colonial, Georgian, Tudor, shingle style, classic revival and others.
